Karachi Electric Supply Company, as part of its fuel diversification, green electricity generation and sustainable development vision, is planning the development of one of the world’s largest Bio Waste to Energy Project of its kind near the Landhi cattle colony situated in Karachi. This plant is likely to have the potential of generating up to 22 MW of electricity fueled from biogas alone. A localized Biogas plant is a socio-economically sustainable venture and reliable in comparison to wind or solar, which are vulnerable to extraneous variables, biggest being weather conditions. The Landhi Biogas project in Karachi will not only generate up to 22MW of green power but will also be producing up to 300 tons/day (tpd) of organic fertilizer as a meaningful byproduct. This organic fertiliser has special application in place of eroded soil which has lost it’s utility and where standard urea fertilizer won’t be effective. In addition to the above, this eco-friendly energy unit will also earn a significant amount of carbon credits, thereby making this Project economically viable.

Meet the Most Important Mineral For Your Fertility
Zinc is the most important mineral and antioxidant in pregnancy and preconception. It is required for foetal growth and development of muscles and bones. It reduces the risk of stretch marks, perineal tears, cracked nipples and it is necessary for immune function and brain formation.
82% of pregnant women world wide are deficient in zinc
A study found that 82% of pregnant women world wide are deficient in zinc. Low zinc levels in pregnancy have been linked to labor complications, low birth weight and premature delivery.
Fertility in men
Zinc is very important nutrient for male fertility and deficiency has been linked to low testosterone and low sperm count and motility. Sperm contains up to 5 mg of zinc per ejaculation, so it’s very important for men to keep up their zinc levels. Studies have shown that zinc has been implicated in testicular development, sperm maturation, and testosterone synthesis.
Fertility in women
In women zinc plays a role in sexual development, ovulation, and menstrual cycle. Concentrations of zinc and folate may have substantial effects on reproduction. Zinc is also required for production of healthy eggs in women. Deficiency during pregnancy can lead to miscarriages and retarded development due to abnormalities in the chromosomes (DNA).
Longevity and Beauty
It is an anti aging mineral and is required for proper tissue repair and hormonal balance. When you are deficient in zinc, your body will go get some from your own reserves. It will start with tissues which can’t hold onto it very well. They are the skin and hair. The result is flaky skin, stretch marks and hair loss. It’s not surprising that many women develop stretch marks and report hair loss in pregnancy. Hair loss can be influenced by hormonal changes in the body but it is also a definite sign of zinc deficiency.
Multitasking Mineral
Zinc’s other roles include;
- Cofactor of hundreds of enzymes, including enzymes involved in food digestion and absorption.
- Proper DNA replication and function.
- Regulates the pH of the cells (if cells are too acidic they are more prone to disease)
- Essential for vitamin A and folic acid metabolism and transportation
- Required for activation of T-lymphocytes (white blood cells required for cell mediated immunity) and making the ‘natural killer cells’ more lethal then they already are.
- Controls release of insulin (hormone required for absorption of glucose, imbalance can lead to diabetes, insulin resistance, PCOS and infertility).
- Makes up one of the most potent antioxidants produced by the human body – Superoxide dismutase (SOD).
- Plays an important role in the health and flexibility of the connective tissue, skin and blood vessels.
Absorption
Zinc absorption can be impaired if you are taking antacids and proton pump inhibitors. It requires acidic environment for optimal absorption and is therefore best taken away from food on an empty stomach.
As it competes for absorption with other nutrients don’t have it at the same time as your multivitamin. Zinc absorption is adversely affected by so many chemicals commonly found in natural food and it fights for absorption with so many other nutrients, not much of it ends up getting absorbed! Therefore zinc should be taken on an empty stomach last thing at night.
Deficiencies and Excesses
Vegans and vegetarians can be deficient in zinc as vegetables, fruits and grains are not optimal source of zinc. Phytic acid found in legumes will also block zinc and other mineral absorption. In addition smoking, drinking coffee, tea and alcohol increases your need for zinc.
Signs of zinc deficiency are loss of appetite, hair loss, white bands and spots on the nails, frequent colds and infections, slow healing wounds, stretch marks, dermatitis, diminished sense of smell and taste and premenstrual pimples and many more.
Excessive zinc consumption of 40mg/day may compete with copper and impair immune function.
How much to have?
Recommended daily intake of zinc is 8 mg/day for women, 11mg/day for men, 11 mg/day during pregnancy, 12 mg/day during lactation.
In men with sperm abnormalities 25-50 mg of zinc have been shown to increase sperm count and boost testosterone levels.
Where to get if from?
Lean meat, oysters, whole grains, nuts, pumpkin seeds, egg yolks, supplemental form – look for zinc acetate, the best tolerated and bioavailable form of zinc in a supplement. Stay clear from zinc oxide as it’s the least absorbent form of zinc!

Pruning Hybrid Tea Rose Bushes (2.6)

on.fb.me UPDATE: I spoke more about Rose Feeding with Laurie Jutzi after filming. She said another reason to hold off on premature rose bush feeding is to prevent aphid infestation. Time your application of rose food as spring’s young leaves have turned from red to green. Rose bushes do love fertilizer, so regular feeding March through October is beneficial. Try using organic blends that feed the soil, rather than synthetic fertilizers that directly feed the plant…this will also help keep the pest’s a little more subdued. -David Walrod *** Season 2 Valentines Day Special: Huntington Botanical Gardens – A Love Story *** David Walrod takes you on a Valentines Day Adventure at the Huntington Botanical Gardens. Allotment Dairy : Growing potatoes in containers, how to boost your yield to get a bumper crop

A quick video of how I go about planting potatoes in containers and then taking up a little soil space on the bed the roots are allowed to grow through the holes into the soil beneath. This is how I did it last year and had some amazing crops of 11 pounds of spuds from just 2 seed potatoes. I use 30 litre pots and add about 4oz of fertilizer to the bottom quarter such as Blood Fish & Bone or whatever your fert of choice is. The amount of room each pot takes up is minimal, around 2square feet so the yield per sq ft is remarkable, way more than planting straight into the soil. The reason seems to be that not only do the plants get all the nutrients from the compost, but also they get extra nutrients and moisture from the soil below. I know the compost costs a little but the ease of harvest cancels out the extra expense and the hassle of digging up the crop. www.allotment-diary.co.uk Facebook Page www.facebook.com
The 5 Best Organic Vegetable Garden Fertilizer Options
The best vegetable garden fertilizer options in your veggie garden are always organic fertilizers. These include animal manures and by products of both animals and vegetables. They add nutrients to vegetable crops and because they are easily bio-degradable and don’t contaminate land and water they promote sustainable gardening and the production of healthy nutritious vegetables.
Animal manures contain phosphorus, nitrogen and potassium but large quantities are required to provide sufficient nutrients for vegetables. Animal manures need to be spread 2-3inches in height and then dug in to topsoil. Where manure is unavailable, water-soluble fertilizer mixtures provide the nutrients required.
Organic by-products of animals include bone dust, bone meal and blood and bone. These contain more nitrogen and phosphorus than animal manure but have no potassium. They are less bulky than animal manures as they don’t contain fibrous material. They should be spread 4 – 8 ounces per 10 square feet and dug into the topsoil. Blood and bone is popular as it contains a mixture of fertilizers and releases them slowly.
Organic by-products of plants include cotton, castor and linseed meal but they are popular stock feed and not always available. These vegetable garden fertilizers are concentrated and contain more nitrogen than animal manure but the same phosphorus and potassium. They are applied in the same way as animal by-products.
Green manuring involves planting crops like wheat, barley, oats or legume crops in beds not in use (generally in fall and winter) and then tilling these crops into the soil to fertilize it. Crops need to be watered and sometime flattened before tilling. Keep the soil damp, not wet and till again after 3 weeks. Organic matter takes nearly a month to decompose and provides cheap organic vegetable garden fertilizer.
Garden compost is the least expensive source of organic vegetable garden fertilizer. It is an easy way to re-cycle waste and kitchen scraps. All plant material can be composted except wood shavings or tough leaves from conifers. Don’t include weeds or diseased plants. Composting is just a way to get organic matter to break down. It requires enough moisture, aeration, a pH near neutral and some complete fertilizer. This provides an ideal climate for microorganisms like bacteria and fungi to multiply and begin to break down any matter in the compost bin.

100 BUSHEL WHEAT HARVEST – Oklahoma – 8 Dryland Wheat Farms

www.Pro-soil.com WHEAT HARVEST (OKLAHOMA USA) – Youtube Video Tribute to an Oklahoma wheat harvest worth remembering for 8 dryland wheat farms harvesting 80 to 100 bushel wheat. This video is dedicated to the memory of Michael E. Black (1953-2009.) It was his last Oklahoma Wheat Harvest. Wheat growers, Randall near Geary, Oklahoma and John in Hobart, Oklahoma, both cut their highest yielding winter wheat ever — averaging 80 and 50-plus bushel of wheat per acre, Randall had one 92 bu. wheat field and John cut 113 bu. and 72 bu. wheat (Jagger variety) on his two best fields Bob, a farm equipment manufacturer, shows off bigger roots and heads on his dryland winter wheat near Alva, Oklahoma (if you don’t own a field cultivator, disk or tractor implement made by his company, you probably know a farmer who does) Two sons from Cordell, Oklahoma enjoy one last wheat harvest on the family farm with their dad. They had an 88 bushel wheat field that tested at 66 lbs. — the grain elevator weighed it three times …
